Family Fitness Made Easy

With the busy lives so many of us lead, we often find it impossible to spend quality time with our family on a regular basis. We try to find a break in our busy schedules, but between work, errands, and an attempt at a regular workout routine, there’s just not enough time left in the day. That’s why we’ve come up with a few tips that should help you spend more time with your family, while making sure you all stay in shape!
Schedule a regular time throughout the week for a family physical activity. You may even want take turns choosing an activity, so that each family member can find something they really enjoy. Whether its coming to the gym to workout together, going for a walk on our 1/2 mile nature trail, or taking part in one of our group classes, find a time at least once a week that works for everyone.

Find a backyard game everyone can enjoy!
Playing a laid back game of soccer, volleyball, or badminton is a great way for the whole family to get exercise and have fun.

Be creative.
On the days that your family is just to busy to exercise, park farther away from the entrance of a building, or take the stairs instead of the elevator. You’ll be surprised at how much of a difference it makes!

Do chores together.
As much as we all hate to do chores, doing them as a family can make them a little more enjoyable. Take advantage of a sunny day and wash the car or rake leaves together.

Go for a ride!
Don’t feel up to a run? Pull out your bicycles and take a family bike ride through the neighborhood, to the park, or to a local restaurant. This is a great way to get exercise and relieve stress.

Staying fit shouldn’t be something you have to do alone. So make it a family activity that everyone can enjoy!

The kids will be running one mile and will finish along the scenic Reedy River. Many of the parents will also be participating in the longer events. For many, this will be their first race, for others, their first race in years. This will certainly be a major accomplishment for everyone involved. The race is Saturday March 1, so feel free to come out and cheer everyone on!
